Thirty days is the sprint pace: about 30 focused hours for someone who already knows an AI drafting tool, a formatter, and the KDP dashboard. First time with those tools? Give yourself 60 to 90 days. Same list, with the learning curve priced in.
Fall behind? Do not try to make up lost time in one long session. Pick up the next unchecked item tomorrow.
Week 1 · Days 1-5
Foundation & market research
- ☐Research the top competing titles in your niche and mine their 1- and 2-star reviews for gaps
- ☐Confirm real demand exists before committing to your angle
- ☐Set up your knowledge base (your "second brain") with your research and notes
- ☐Choose your monetization plan: book sales, a paid service, affiliate income, or a mix
- ☐Map an outline showing how each section can be repurposed later
Week 2 · Days 6-13
The drafting sprint
- ☐Calibrate your AI drafting tool with a sample of your own writing
- ☐Draft your opening chapter, focused on the hook
- ☐Run a daily Deep Work block of at least 60 uninterrupted minutes
- ☐Push through to a complete first draft without editing as you go
Week 3 · Days 14-21
Editing & polish
- ☐Run a structural and fact-check pass across the full draft
- ☐Do a voice pass to strip out AI-sounding phrasing and stock clichés
- ☐Add tables, lists, or visuals that make dense sections easier to scan
- ☐Apply formatting: trim size, gutter, headers, and EPUB/PDF export settings
Week 4 · Days 22-30
Launch & expansion
- ☐Finalize your cover and metadata: title, categories, and keywords
- ☐Line up early reader copies, with reviews spread across launch week
- ☐Set a small test ad budget and switch it on at launch
- ☐Choose your first "beyond the book" asset and set a start date
